"I'm from the Gummit...." Representative Marty Kair
Marty Kair entered the State House of Representatives in 2006 representing District 97 which encompasses parts of Davie, Weston, Coral Springs and Parkland, among others. It is the largest land mass district in the state. Marty is a lawyer and his dad is a former Mayor of Davie.
His presentation today centered on the upcoming voting on January 29th on the constitutional vote relating to real property tax reform. Among the changes would be a 10% cap on tax increases for non-homestead property, an additional $25,000 homestead exemption except on school tax portion of the bill) and a $25,000 tangible tax limitation for business. Also homestead exemption "portability" would be available to current home owners. A controversial issue and one whose success is less than guaranteed. We apprecaite the information Marty gave us in an unbiased fashion.
Also visiting us today was Alina Ali who is home on vacation from Cornell University. She is a former Interact President from Douglas High. Glad to have her join us.
