Eliu Perez

Ambassadorial Scholar and

Corporate Responsibility

In our never ending quest to set the Guinness Book of World Records record for the most speakers at a Rotary Club in a year we had two, count 'em, TWO speakers today.

First was returned Ambassadorial Scholar Sarah Bollinger who was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Fort Lauderdale South and who spend a year in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Sarah provided a whole host of facts about he adopted country:  The name Argentina comes from the symbol for silver - AG; it boosts one psychoanalyst for every 30 residents; it claims to have the longest street, widest street and longest river in the world.  And it is the mecca of Tango, a dance that Sarah took full advantage of.  She explained that public universities in Buenos Aires are free but the registration process is mired down in lots of red tape.  While in Argentina Sarah got involved in volunteer work including blood drives and children play days.  She also got involved in a water project involving water filters which was a cooperative effort between Rotary Clubs in Argentina and her club in Fort Lauderdale.

Next up was Eliu Perez with CDM, same employer as our own Andy "Bear" Baranowski.  Eliu is a former exchange student from El Salvador and got a degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Kansas.  He explained how his corporation, CDM has a strong policy of corporate responsibility and believes in "doing good by being good".  He stressed that CDM's employees are important contributors to society and that social and environmental issues are connected worldwide.  CDM's employees are encouraged to get involved in the community through service organizations, and Andy is certainly a great example of that!
