CHALLENGER LITTLE LEAGUE
Moving into the home stretch and Prez Drew is
really working it hard for photo ops.
So today we had Randy Hibsham
from the Challenger Little League which we have been supporting for many
years. For those not aware Challenger Little League is baseball for
physically handicapped kids - from minimal to severe. Some of the
kids play in wheelchairs. And it turns out that South Florida has
one of the biggest programs in the US, and it is so successful that when
it started out it was for kids into their early teens, but now there are
teams with participants into their mid-20s.
The games are typically 2 to 3
innings and no one wins, everyone bats and everyone plays. It is not
unusual to have 12 to 15 players in the field.
Randy told about a funny
incident that occurred several years ago involving his son, who was
playing right field. The batter hit a ball in the air to right field
- that had never happened before. And Randy's son caught it - THAT
had never happened before! No one kenw what to do!
We have supported this group
for many years with a minimal donation, but they never forget to recognize
us and give us a plaque (below) with pictures of all the teams.
