Today’s meeting, though modified after a late speaker cancellation, turned out to be a good “focus” session, thanks to President Drew and his can-do attitude! After starting on time (for once) Drew took the opportunity to cover some membership basics, distribute membership resource materials, and introduce a “mentorship” plan for the club. The significant numbers of new or semi-new members in our club are now paired with more experienced members, who are tasked with the responsibility of enhancing the newer members’ Rotary experience. Our condolences to Al Hoffer and Randy Godard.

Other items of interest include a decision to start the Sherwood Forest BBQ on November 4 at 1:30 p.m.; Todd Finkel fattened the happy dollar pot with a check in recognition of his birthday milestone (welcome to the beginning of the end, Todd); and the program speaker committee was expanded.

The final 20 minutes of the meeting were devoted to 1-minute vocational talks, with members from around the table throwing out an item of interest or a specific “challenge” within his or her particular field that may not be known generally by the group. Interestingly, a common thread appeared: no industry is unaffected by the rapid changes occurring around the world. From climate irregularities to population migration, from educational chasms to cultural differences – conducting business from across the street or across the ocean now requires a global perspective.

Tom did NOT pull the Ace.
