3D Learning AND Douglas Senior of the Month
Well it is the last meeting of the month and we all know what that means, right boys and girls. Yup, John Congemi glomming a free breakfast off of us. He did his usual whining about FCAT, but he did take time to thank member Drew Bartoszek for donating some landscaping to help spruce up the campus and how he managed to commandeer a whole lotta mulch for the project. He also noted that plans are moving forward for a 36 room addition to the school.
John then introduced Michelle Romeus as December's Senior of the Month. A self-described person who "never usually gets this kind of recognition" she is overcoming a lot of challenges to peruse her educational career in the hopes of becoming an ultrasound technician. She is a member of the Douglas choir and manages to work 30 hours a week as well as do her studies. We wish her good luck.
Our speaker today is Mark Halpert of 3D Learner, Inc. Mark is a member of the Douglas Partners in Excellence program so the timing of his appearance was appropriate. Mark explained that though personal experiences with his own kids he discovered that some kids who are written off as inattentive or disruptive actually have trouble learning in the "traditional" way - they are what are called visual learners and as such need a different way to learn. Once that is recognized these individuals can be very successful. The areas to observe to see if a child is a visual learner are learning differences, attention span, visual perception, auditory issues and anxiety.
