ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS

and

OUTBOUND EXCHANGE STUDENTS

The speaker today was Steven Sloan from the University of Miami speaking on behalf of Engineers Without Borders.  Like other chapters around the country, the UM chapter is patterned after Doctors Without Borders and do humanitarian works around the world.

The UM chapter has done work in Ecuador and Peru.  In each case the members have gone into these countries in very remote areas to help bring potable water into communities which have not had this except for very limited times.  In one community they are also establishing a health center to help treat ill villagers, and are educating the villagers to make this a self sustaining effort.

Also here today were Melissa Rivillas and David Ocampo, outbound exchange students we are sponsoring.  Melissa is going to Japan and David to Denmark.
