WHAT DID YOU DO THIS SUMMER?  I WENT TO FRANCE

Manuela Mejia

AND

SENIOR OF THE MONTH

Ivette Landrian

A new school year has begun and apparently JC lost a lot of money on the golf course, so he showed up with the Senior of the Month for September hoping to clean us out again in the 50/50 (he didn't).  John gave us an update on the comings and goings at Douglas and just brightened everyone's day with talk of budget cuts, worker time cuts, supply cuts, etc.  But the school is off to a good start and is ranked 146th in the country for secondary schools..

Ivette Landrian  likes to help other students, and in addition to being the Math Club president, she tutors others in that field.  She is also the Historian for the Spanish Honor Club and volunteers at South Broward Community School.  She made several in the crowd happy announcing that she intends to attend UF in the fall to pursue a career in medicine.

The speaker today was Manuela Mejia, a junior at North Broward Prep.  Manuela spent six weeks with her French youth exchange "twin" Ségalène Mirault, three weeks in Florida and three weeks in France.  And she took us on a photographic tour of her time in France, from Tours, to Paris to Normandy.  And she went with a joie de vive attitude - try most anything.  Some things she liked (escargots) and some not so much (frog legs and oysters.  And she is an accomplished photographer entertaining the group with her efforts in that area.  We hope she will keep in touch.
