IDENTITY THEFT
This morning we had light attendance due to the long holiday weekend, but an
attentive group nonetheless. Prez Todd reminded the assembled of important
dates upcoming: Bowl-a-thon, Prospective Member Wine & Cheese, District
Conference, Dolphins Game Outing and more its a busy fall!
Our guest speaker was Christopher Smith, Community Outreach Specialist with
RBC Bank (USA). His topic was identity theft how to minimize your risk and
what to do if you are a victim. Identity theft affects more than 7 million
people annually. Smith advises that you obtain a copy of your credit report
from each of the three major credit bureaus once a year, laddering them
every 4 months, so that you can review for accuracy and check for
unauthorized transactions.
If you are a victim, act quickly and rationally and:
· Contact all creditors for accounts that have been used or opened
fraudulently
· Notify ALL credit reporting agencies
· File a police report
· File a report with the FTC
For a free annual credit report, visit www.annualcreditreport.com . To reach
the FTC, call 1-877-IDTHEFT (438-4338) or visit www.consumer.gov/idtheft.
