SENIOR SAFETY and JPT SENIOR OF THE MONTH and OTHER STUFF
The business portion of the meeting started with John "Ace" Congemi. No longer fully gainfully employed John is always looking for a free meal. But he was also plugging his Senior Ethical Seminar which will now feature 110 seniors from JP Taravella. This year it will be held at Colony Club. He is also shilling for the Coral Sprigns Chamber of Commerce, so he gave them a plug as well.
Our Senior of the month from JPT was Shawn Fristheard who is very active in the Navy ROTC at Taravella. Coming from a family background seeped in law enforcement, Shawn will be attending Broward College and studying criminal Justice.
Youth exchange was present as well. Making her first appearence was Carleigh McFarlane who will be our outbound student to Budapest, Hungary next year. Her mother, Dana, also present, is our Interact Advisor at CSHS. And Aneta Lysakova, our inbound from Czech Republic was here as well filling us in our her comings and goings, under the watchful eye of her happy host dad, Shawn Cerra, principal at JPT. Aneta says she was happy to change schools and now attends JPT. That guaranteed her dinner.
Our speaker today was Cindy Heafy, a long time resident of Coral Springs and who married in to a longer time Coral Springs family. Cindy is the CSPD's Community Involvement Coordinator and is the Geriatrac Manager and Guadian for Seniors in Coral Springs. She has coordinated many events open to all, but targeted to seniors. One was a "Shred-a-thon" where residents could bring paperwork to be shred correctly; there was also a program where individuals could safely turn in outdated or unidentified prescriptions for proper disposal.
Two other
events which Cindy coordinates on a regular basis are monthly luncheons for
seniors to discuss law enforcement issues, and "Seniors vs. Crime" where her
department tries to resolve simple legal issues without the necessity of
going to court.
