OUTBOUND EXCHANGE STUDENTS

Mike Campbell, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity for South Palm Beach County was the speaker today. He indicated that Habitat is in 93 countries. There have been 300,000 houses built by Habitat worldwide to date, and in his area in Boynton there are seven such houses. Habitat is currently trying to raise $5 million of which $1 million will go to Haiti for home construction there.

Each Habitat homeowner must work 500 hours with Habitat before they get a home, and they undergo training as to how to finance and maintain their homes once they are provided with one.

Habitat has 64 affiliates in the state of Florida and 1,600 in the United States. Mike reported that 93 cents of every dollar raised goes to construction.

Also present today were our soon to be new Outbound Exchange Students - Melissa Rivillas, going to Japan and David Ocampo going to Denmark. Prez Todd presented them each with a club banner and pin with instructions to come back to us with banners from their host clubs.
