HARVEST DRIVE
Visiting today was Jody Samuels, a North Area Social Worker Team Leader, and Harvest Drive worker bee. We will once again be assisting the folks at Harvest Drive soliciting donations and then the mammoth task of sorting and bagging the donated food items, as well as purchasing the perishables. The gathering and sorting is done at five area schools this year - Western, the first school to participate; Stoneman Douglas, in its third year; Pompano and Glades Middle School, second year each, and new this year, Plantation.
Needy families are referred to Harvest Drive by social workers at various school in Broward County. Each family gets 10 bags of groceries, plus the opportunity to browse through clothes and toys which are also donated. Last year over 400 families were sponsored, and this year the group has set the lofty goal of 1,000 families.
To sponsor a family with a cash donation costs $67.00.
At Douglas, where we typically get involved, sorting will be November 18th with distribution on November 19 and 20.
