Identity Theft

A Visitor from Jolly Old England

We were pleased to have a visitor from the Great Yarmouth Haven Rotary Club in England.  Robert Price told us about his club and presented Prez Todd with a banner, and we actually found one of ours and gave it to him!  Cheerio!

Our speaker was Sgt.  Joe Barbuto who had a message which was not so cheery.  Joe spoke of identity theft and its impact in Coral Springs.  Last year there were 64 such cases with 40 adults and 5 kids being arrested.  There were also 100 credit card thefts.

He also discussed where and how personal information is stolen.  Gas stations is a prime place where thieves steal personal items from cars while the owner is pumping gas.  It also seems that while people are getting fit, the bad guys are getting fat.  There were 19 incidents of personal property stolen from cars parked at 24 Hour Fitness, and 12 at L A Fitness.

Joe showed pictures of cars in parking lots with wallets, purses and other personal property sitting in open view just ripe for picking.
