Parkland Build-a-Park Project

On Sunday, February 18, 2001 many members of the Rotary Club of Coral Springs - Parkland eschewed personal desires and put in some community time at a "hands on" project in the City of Parkland.  "Build-a-Park" is a community based park project that, while organized by professionals, is spearheaded by locals, from fund raising, equipment procurement,  and volunteer workers (not to mention food and refreshments for the workers).  A similar project was spearheaded several years ago in ghte City of Coral Springs by Sandy Betlach, wife of member Doug Betlach, and the club turned out for a work day at that project as well.

So special thanks to Drew Bartoszek who helped get the group out there and to Gloria and Tony Rossomano, Pat Hornsby, Carl Lammers and son Andy, Dennis Parker, Bill Pfeiffer and our exchange student Max Von Raben for helping out for a great cause.

Parkland Build-a-Park --under construction

Carl Lammers, Dennis Parker get their assignments, with exchange student, Max Von Raben

Max is wondering if this is a good idea

Dennis and Bill eye the project; Carl charges on, the leader he is

Scary sight - Carl checks out a POWER TOOL!!!

Max (white t-shirt) and Andy Lammers (dark blue t-shite) help raise the Mt. Rushmore mural

Gloria is having fun!

But Gloria WORKED!!!

Carl asks "Where's my Swenson tool??"  You had to be there!

How many Rotarians does it take to nail in a nail - looks like 5 - one to nail, one to hold and three to supervise

Bill and Pat are pissed - they lost the Simon says "Put your hands on your hips" contest!

Leaners - we got leaners!

Drew is supervising above

And Bill is in the "smoking zone", holding up the table saw.

Pat does a construction site fashion statement

Dennis and lumber - not a good mix

The troops and amazed - a lawyer and a skill saw

Pat and Bill on the table saw  - scary!

Several hours later - Drew wins the "Simon Says" contest!

Now, full of pride having won the contest, Drew starts working for a change!

Our leader Carl with a drill in his hand and a nail in his mouth.  If only he kept the nail in his mouth during meetings.....

By total coincidence we happened to see a fence "slat" that was donated by a member (OK, former member but still active) David Mountford, in his name and that of his wife, Marsha.  Unfortunately they misspelled "Mountford" and that will be corrected.  Thanks David and Marsha!
