Lauren Rosa

Souper Bowl

January 30, 2007

MSD Cafeteria

Today’s meeting ushered in the New Year with quiet gusto. Lauren Rosa, Interact Sponsor at Stoneman Douglas H.S., joined us to bring the club up to speed on the students’ activities. Their current project is participation in the Souper Bowl of Caring, a youth-led, grassroots movement to fight hunger and poverty in our communities. Interact students are organizing a soup supper at the school. Guests will pay $10 for a bowl of soup and a piece of bread to raise awareness of hunger issues and donations for the country-wide event that culminates on Super Bowl Sunday. Included in the price of the soup meal is an empty bowl. These handcrafted, artistic bowls are being made using different materials and processes by Ms. Rosa’s art students as well as the Interact members, and will serve as a reminder that many in our own communities face empty bowls each day.

Also visiting was our Inbound exchange student, Renan Portelinha, who had the winning 50/50 ticket, but missed the Ace.

Renan, is that a shadow on his face
