Florida Youth Orchestra
Executive Director Myra Weaver was the speaker today informing us of the Florida Youth Orchestra. music education for at-risk children. It was founded in 1988 and currently has over 300 musicians from the tri-county area. Several years ago it performed at Carnegie Hall in New York and they have been invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington in 2005. Each year they do a concert series in the area consisting of seven, usually sold out, performances. In addition to five orchestra divisions there are ensembles for string, wind, brass and percussion.
