The State of the City

Parkland

Mayor Michael Udine of Parkland was our speaker today, bring the membership up to date on events going on in the City which comprises half of our club's name.  Udine noted that the millage rate in the city of Parkland has gone down in recent years, due in large measure to the overwhelming growth in the area and the huge increase in real property assessed values in the city.  He noted that any increases in resident's tax bills was not as a result of city taxes but as a result of the other taxing authorities on the bill.  He outlined several new projects that will be coming on line in the city - one, a city project at the old city hall which will be a new community center.  Another project, in the private sector, will be a "mini-Mizner" complex in the north part of the city.  Also discussed was the annexation of the "wedge" - the land between Parkland's north border and the Hillsboro canal.  That land is currently in Palm Beach County.  Also of major concern is whether or not to extend University Drive into Palm Beach County.
