When it rains it pours!  Lots of stuff today!

First, it was senior of the month and that was preceded by the usual message from John Congemi about how things are going at Douglas.  The talk today was mainly about what the kids are currently experiencing - FCAT.  He also reported about the state of the stadium - it is going along fine.

The Senior of the Month for February is xx who was here with his parents Jeff and Cindy Himmel.  Ryan is a video tekkie who got is interest in video production by taking a class at Douglas.  That started him on a mission - doing all kinds of videos for the school, helping in their school television production, and has gotten to the point where he has started his own business creating videos for local businesses.  He wants to take this to the next level when he will attend the Fort Lauderdale Art Institute and seek a degree in digital media.

The speaker today was Rick Braswell, Chaplain for the Broward Sheriff's Office.  On the list of "Jobs One Would Never Want" this is certainly on the top.  A serious and certainly needed and well respected position for the right person, part of Rick's responsibilities is to inform family members of the death or serious injury of deputies killed or wounded in the line of duty.  Rick recounted, with humility and respect, some of the recent fallen deputies with whose families he has had to deal.  He also indicated that the fallen are honored every year on the anniversary of their death with a memorial service to which family members are brought to participate in the service.  Also part of his purpose for being with us was to discuss the foundation created by Coral Cadillac for a deputy killed in the line of duty working at that dealership.  Coral started a foundation to provide funds for the education of children of fallen deputies, and a portion of the funds from our golf tournament will go to that foundation.
