Ambassadorial Scholarship Candidate

Coral Springs Community Emergency Response Team

C.E.R.T.

The local leader of the Community Emergency Response Team, Michael DiTocco, was the speaker today.  The team, made up of volunteers, exists to help professional emergency personnel, in the event of any kind of disaster, natural or man made.  In the event of hurricanes they do damage assessments and need for emergency help; they assist professional fire fighters and police, although they neither fight fires nor are active in law enforcement.  There is a considerable amount of training before one can join the team, and there is continuous update training.  Before graduating from the training regimen each team applicant must pass a series of disaster related drills to demonstrate a command of the skills needed to be an effective team leader.  The only scary part of the program was the mention that Todd Dayton is a menber of the Coral Springs CERT.

Also on the agenda was the introduction of David Tell, our newest Ambassadorial Scholar candidate.  He was interviewed by several of the club members and found to be an excellent candidate.  David, currently a sophomore at FSU, is seeking a scholarship so that he can study in the field of water management and resources.  We have had one of our applicants awarded a scholarship and another as a back up, and we stand a good chance of another good showing in this highly competitive endeavor.
