Ambassadorial Scholarships

Rotary has many programs that are supported by the Rotary Foundation, and one of them is the Ambassadorial Scholarships, a very competitive scholarship which is valued at $25,000 per student and is not available to Rotarians or members of Rotarian families.  Scholars spend a year abroad studying at a university in a country that the student must demonstrate a command of the local language.  Each student is sponsored by a local Rotary club and is theoretically hosted by a club in the area where the student is studying.

We had the pleasure of having Thomas Patterson as our speaker today, an Ambassadorial Scholar in 2001 - 2002 who spent his year as a French literature major in Switzerland.  While Thomas indicated a lot of specific problems with his "host" club and supposed contact, the overall result of the year was very positive and he was extremely grateful and thankful for the opportunity given him by District 6990 Rotary.

Thomas presents Prez Dennis with a banner of one of the Swiss Clubs in the District where he studied.  For a larger version visit our "Virtual Wall".
