NEW MEMBER: Jerry Sussman

Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranches

Susan Carlson, Development Officer for the Florida Sheriff's Youth Ranches, Inc. spoke today about the organization which was founded in 1957 by two Florida Sheriffs.  It has grown today to four permanent youth ranches and two permanent camps, as well as two mobile projects called Project Harmony, a week long camp, and "Harmony in the Streets", a mobile community based service.  Since its inception the project has served over 45,000 boys , givls and their families.

These ranches and camps are established to help kids who do not have an appropriate home environment, but it is not established as a place to deal with delinquent kids.  The ranches provide structured family homes with trained counselors who live with the kids.  To learn more check out their web site.

We are happy to have new member Jerry Sussman join us today as a new member.  Moving to the Coral Springs area from Texas Jerry, a continuing Rotarian, will have the classification of "Health Care Administration Research" although he claims to be "semi-retired".  He will spend part of the year at his summer get away in Newport, Rhode Island, that tacky little town on the Atlantic where a "cottage" has 47 bedrooms.  Jerry has a real interest in the International aspect of Rotary and is interested in working with the City in its International Partnerships program.

Welcome aboard!!
