Literacy Task Force

Steve Laine came to us with a lot of Rotary credentials - past District Governor in District 6930 to our north, member of the Paul Harris Benefit Bequest Society, a Major Donor and speaker on World Hunger issues at International Conventions and Institutes.  Today he came to us as the Chairman of the Literacy Task Force for Zone 34, of which District 6990 is a member.  The purpose of the Literacy Task Force is to increase literacy rates around the world, but Steve provided us statistics of the rates of illiteracy here in the United States where illiteracy should not be an issue.  Facts and figures were provided as to the amazing amount of adult illiteracy that exists here in the most developed nation in the world, and through the efforts of the Literacy Task Force it is hoped that these numbers will decline in the future.
