AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLAR CANDIDATE

Jordan M. Bazinsky

This club is fortunate this year to have sponsored two very worthy candidates for the District 6990 Ambassadorial Scholarship awards to be presented in the early summer.  Our second candidate spoke today and showed why he is an excellent candidate.  He is a graduate of Duke University where he was president of the Duke student government.  An impressive resume includes past experience as a teacher in Quito, Ecuador and Kitesh, Russia;  studied post-apartheid public policy in Cape Town, South Africa; as been a member of the Duke University Board of Trustees and is currently a Senior Analyst  dealing with healthcare issues for a Washington, DC think tank.  He hopes to study international business with a focus on healthcare.

Also making what will probably be his last meeting of the year was John Congemi from Douglas.  He gave us a status of the school and noted all the various state championships Douglas earned, both in academics and athletics in 2005 - 2006.  It was again an A- school and one of the tops in FCAT scores in the county.  He also noted that the long awaited light poles were installed at the football field and other improvements will be coming shortly.

John then introduced the Senior of the Month, Melissa Lustrin, President of her class and a "Spirit of South Florida" award winner presented by NBC6 in Miami (see story at http://www.nbc6.net/news/8536910/detail.html).  She is also a Silver Knight award nominee in English and a Douglas Eagle award winner.  She is going to attend University of Miami in the fall, studying Communications or Pre/Law/Criminology.  Another fine example of a Senior of the Month.
