AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Today we were joined by Lee Phares, member and former president of the Fort Lauderdale South club and currently the District Chairman for Foundation Educational Grants and Scholarships.  The topic today was Ambassadorial Scholarships, how they work and what is involved to get one.  For those not presently aware we are currently processing one such application.

The basics: (1) Must have at least 2 years college education; (2) can not be a Rotarian or member of a Rotarian family; (3) value of scholarship is about $25,000 (4) only good for study abroad (5) demonstrated language skills required; (6) five university choices required - no more than 2 in any country.

Each year the District Governor decides how many scholarships will be available from the Foundation funds available from Rotary.  This District typically awards three such scholarships.  While the district chooses the candidates, RI chooses the actual university the student will attend from the list of choices the student submits.

It would be a real feather in our cap if our student were selected for an Ambassadorial Scholarship and Lee has provided us with the information necessary to get us on that road.
