Special Agent Steve Wexler

United States Secret Service

SECRET SERVICE!

A good turn out today got to hear Special Agent Steve Wexler of the Secret Service, a division of the Department of the Treasury.  Steve, an agent going into his 16th year, has had a number of outstanding details, including both protective (covering Vice President Al Gore) and investigative (doing counterfeit detail, his current position in Miami).  He told us confidentially how to sneak into the White House and get into the booze locker.  (THIS IS A JOKE - JUST KIDDING!!   We have no idea where George keeps the booze!!!)  He did tell us about some of the things that, as an agent, he got to do that he would otherwise not have had the opportunity to do, like visit Russia and be in the room that Stalin died, not something that the average American gets to do.

The Secret Service was formed in the 1860s to counteract counterfeiting of Union money by the confederacy.  The added duty of protection of the executive branch was added much later.  Ironically President Abe Lincoln could have used that protection.  Steve spoke about how the US currency is made and how counterfeiters have tried to duplicate the process - and even how some dummies have taken very bad imitations.  But not Gloria's bank, for sure.  A great program and we hope that Steve will come back in the future.

Great turn out, and by GEORGE, I certainly would not let it be known who didn't show up. I would but I KEN not!
