Hedy Sussman speaks on Make a Wish |
Make-A-Wish Hedy Sussman, wife of member Gerry, was our speaker today (a real yeoman effort on Gerry's part to get a speaker!!) but a great program it was. She spoke about the Make A Wish foundation which attempts to fulfill wishes for kids with life threatening illnesses. Some 4,000 wishes have been fulfilled in the South Florida area alone, and one of the biggest wish destinations is, of course, Disney World. Each wish costs on average $4,200 to complete, and of that 86% goes to the wish fulfillment, the balance to administration, Hedy mentioned that a lot of cooperation is given by companies, like Disney, and sports stars also who meet and spend time with the kids.
Also in attendance was Gisele Fuentes, our fourth and final Scholarship recipient. Gisele recently graduated from Coral Springs High School and will be attending UCF in the fall. |
