JULY 24, 2001 MEETING

     Prez Gloria opened up the meeting attended by the usual cast of characters, and reported the outcome of the recent Board of Directors meeting.  See below.

     Our speakers today were Debbie Frybarger and Sandy Longo of Junior Achievement of South Florida, Inc.  The two spoke of the variious programs which are sponsored by JA and which involve community professionals partnering with local schools to teach kids a little about real world econimics.  The teaching opportunities are from kindergarten and elementary grades all the way through high school, and involve various levels of commitment on the part of the volunteers.  The opportunity is given to business and professional members of the community to address the kids and teach them, from first hand experience, a little about the free enterprise system.  Training for the volunteers and a full course outline is provided by JA.  Great opportunity for "hands on" project.  Thanks to Todd (and Gloria) for this program.

     It should be noted that JA of South Florida was founded by Rotarians!!

     Recent Board of Directors meeting:

Among other things the Board has:

     -  voted to support the Rotary Gridiorn Classic Football game played in January at the Gator Bowl; Joe will chair the event and hopes are to put together our own bus;

     -  set the date for the Bowl-a-thon for October 20th;  Andy will chair AGAIN!!

     -   set a Foundation giving goal of $2,000 this year.

     -   once again stressed the need to work on growing the membership with quality members.
