Susan Goldstein

State of Government in Florida

Representative Susan K. Goldstein

We were honored today to have Rep. Susan Goldstein as our speaker who gave us an interesting view on what goes on in Tallahassee, and the power struggles that exist in the various areas of the state and how the balance of power shifts from the urban north to rural south - with the historical control being in the north.  It was easy to see that her real passion is education and trying to provide the best educational opportunities to her constituents, and she was not shy about expressing frustration at how politics and regional power bases effect  education state wide.  An interesting and informative program.

Also with us today was John Adams from the Rotary Club of Coral Springs (you mean there is another one here?).   A member of his club, Carlos Ayala, is coordinating a visit in November by a group of five Russian leaders to visit and study government in the United States, and the City of Coral Springs specifically.   He is looking for volunteers to host some of these individuals and further help coordinate activities for the group.

And Lauren Rosa was also here, back from an exciting trip to Europe this summer.  She announced plans to do a trip this spring to Ecuador to participate in an as yet to be determined humanitarian project.  We will be working with Belen Horra, a recently departed Inbound Exchange Student and the Rotary Club of Quito.  While not an official school project the source of volunteers will be our Interact Clubs.  Stay tuned.
