CANCER After a long holiday weekend we were treated to a fill-in meeting place at the Coral Springs Medical Center and a talk on Cancer. Now THAT will cheer you up no end! The speaker was David Bimston, MD, surgical oncologist and affiliated with the Moffett Cancer Centers which have facilities at North Broward and Broward General Hospitals. The main focus of Dr. Bimston's talk was colorectal cancer, how to screen for it, when screening should be done and treatment for the various stages of the disease. he also discussed various theories for causes, and survival rates for patients depending on the stage of the disease when diagnosed. The main point - get checked out!! Thanks to Warren Goodman for arranging to have our meeting at CS Medical Center. The fact that a doctor from a "competing" hospital caused him no concern although it did appear that Warren had wrestled the good doctor to the ground after the meeting. And to the delight of the sparse crowd there was a buffet, complete with nova lox!!! So THERE!!! |
