What a Great Idea!!
Today we were joined by
Janice Zack who hails from the Albany area of New York ("upstate as
New Yorkers" refer to it) and among her accomplishments is a graduate
of Utica College. (or "UC" as is it referred to upstate, not to
be confused with the other "UC" which is Utica Club, a beer!)
All kidding aside, Janice runs a really great program at CSMC as the
Child Life Coordinator. Her position calls for her to basically
act as an information giver, not only to the parents of children from
infancy to teenagers, but to the kids themselves. In addition to
doing pre-opp sessions with the kids to explain the procedures they
are about to undergo, she deals with the parents during the
procedures, and the kids post-opp. There are facilities in the
hospital for the kids in recovery and all of this service has proven
to be very beneficial, both in lessening the trauma associated with
being in a hospital and going through surgical procedures. Great
program - and our newest member, Warren, got to sit next to Janice,
who works in the same place and they only see each other every once in
a while - when they have a birthday cake fiasco - which is apparently
an inside joke! |
