NOVEMBER 6, 2001 MEETING

The Apple Tree Program

Speaking today was Rich Stubblefield who appeared on behalf of a program known as "The Apple Tree Program", a project that provides toys, clothing and other gifts to needy children at Christmas time.  The program started in 1986 with 56 children and has now grown to almost 500.  The kids come from local organizations like S.O.S Children's Village, Women in Distress, Broward Children's Center and Rich stressed that each child gets as many as 4 or five presents.  The program gets its name from "apples" that are filled out with a specific need for a specific child.  Sponsors request "apples" and supply the requested item - and on the special night it takes several hundred "gift givers" to hand out all the loot!  This is  a program that can be a "hands on" project for the club involving no money (unless someone wants to donate) - just time and effort for which you are handsomely rewarded - with a  smile from a needy child.
