District Secretary

Doug Maymon

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION

District Secretary Doug Maymon, a frequent guest and visitor, was our speaker today - topic - The Rotary Foundation.  Many Rotarians, especially the newer ones, hear about the Foundation but don't really know how it works, or what it is.  Basically funds that are contributed to the Foundation are retained by it for three years - the interest from the donated funds is used to pay administrative expenses.  After three years 50% of the funds donated from a District are returned to that District to fund Foundation programs, such as Ambassadorial Scholarships, Group Study Exchange and matching grants.  The Foundation also funded Polio Plus, Rotary's plan to eradicate polio by 2005.

RCCSP members should know that for the past three years the Board has voted to donate between $100 and $125 per member to the foundation.  After a member has $1,000 in his or her account that individual is awarded a Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of that achievement.
