CLICK ON THUMBNAIL FOR LARGER VERSION New Member, Cub Scouts and Robots

An eclectic kind of meeting today.  First Secretary Paul filled in for Prez Drew who was goofing off somewhere, as usual.  But Paul was quickly up to the mantle of leadership as his first duty of the day was to install our newest member, Mickey Berke, a long time Coral Springs resident being sponsored by Gerry Sussman.  He enters under the classification of retailing.

Next we heard from William Goodman a member of Cub Scout Pack 360, the pack that our club annually "charters".  William spoke about the upcoming Pack 360 Bike-a-thon at Tradewinds Park which will actually be a weekend affair with wilderness camping, a bike rally, rock climbing wall and many education activities for the kids to earn scout awards.

The speaker was Harvey Rudich of the Parkland Robotics Club, who brought with him "Bot", the club's project for the prior year.  The club, comprised primarily of secondary school students but in past years assisted by local professional engineers 9mainly from Motorola) have taken part in annual robotic competitions.  Each year a task is assigned and certain strict construction standards set, and beyond that it is the creativity and imagination of the kids and engineers that are put to the test of completing the assigned task.
