Family Resource Center

 

There exists a service probably unknown to most residents of Broward County - the Family Resource Center, the speaker today being its director, Sheila Kaufman.  In 30 schools in the North Broward Area Ms. KAufman provides help for students and families in crisis by providing a food bank located in three of the schools in the northern zone.  Additionally they help students throughout the year by purchasing emergency items such as perishable food, clothing and school supplies.  Referrals come from school within the zone and from social workers outside the zone.  The families are either homeless, in financial crisis or unemployed.  Ms. Kaufman told of a single parent family with four children living in a van. and the kids never missed a day of school   Makes you thankful for what you've got.
